Hello 2012!

1 min read
I suppose this is a little late in the year for welcoming 2012, but I don't post new journal entries very often (and technically this is the first journal I've posted this year).

In Seventh Sanctum news, I'm sad to say that I wasn't able to participate in the Technomancy contest due to more important things getting in the way (such as looking for a job), but I am proud to say that I DID make it in time for the Science Fiction Tarot Card Contest! [link] www.seventhsanctum.com/contest… [/link].
(…but I'm still looking for a job…)

In similar news, I've been experimenting with new drawing styles. Hopefully I can make the time to sit down and draw some pictures just for the fun of it (instead of drawing just for the sake of contests). If I come up with anything good I'll be sure to post them here on DeviantART.

Have a great day!

So lately I've been trying my hand at photography, and I'm slowly learning the basics. I've been taking a lot of pictures whenever I go somewhere, and occasionally I manage to take a picture worth keeping. The rest I've been putting in a "stock pictures" folder in case I need any textures or references for other art projects. Still, I learn something with every photograph I take, whether it gets posted online or dumped into a stock folder.

In Seventh Sanctum news, there is a new contest up: Technomancy! www.seventhsanctum.com/contest… It has be quite a while since I last participated in one of these contests, so I think I might give this one a try. Wish me luck!

I don't know when my next journal entry will be, so I'll wish everyone a happy holiday season now while I have the chance:

So it's been quite a while since I've submitted any new artwork or updated my Journal. Sorry about that, but a lot of things have been going on (work related).

I've been so swamped with work that I wasn't able to create a drawing for the Seventh Sanctum Weapons & Warriors contest, but congratulations to the winners of the contest! [www.seventhsanctum.com/contest…. Its fun looking through all of the submissions and seeing the different types of characters that people came up with, especially for a contest that has such diversity of generators to choose from.
As for the newest contest on Seventh Sanctum: Horseplay [www.seventhsanctum.com/contest…, I think I might sit this one out and wait until the next contest rolls around. Drawing magical equines just isn't my thing. Sorry.

That reminds me: Steven Savage just finished publishing his eBook called: Focused Fandom: Cosplay, Costuming, and Careers. [www.focusedfandom.com/book-cos… If you like costumes, cosplay, or both, I recommend taking a look at it.

Last but not least, I want to thank everyone for getting my DeviantART page up to 1,000 pageviews. I know 1,000 isn't a lot compared to most artists, but this is a new milestone for me (never before has my artwork been so popular).

Thanks for your support, and have a great day today!

I just posted my entry for the RIFT Create a Colossus contest! [news.deviantart.com/article/15… Here's a contest where you have to create a big bad boss with an elemental theme, and I couldn't help but think about my "Vengeance of Sailor Witch Ahab" drawing. When I first discovered it, I just knew I had to enter. Drawing colossi are fun, and I wanted to try drawing another one (but one that was different enough from Moby Dick). Too bad the contest didn't last longer, or I would have had time to make multiple submissions.

I realize I'm pretty late in saying this, but congratulations to the winners of the Seventh Sanctum's Fantasy Fusion Contest!
In other 7S news, the next Seventh Sanctum contest has been announced: Weapons and Warriors [seventhsanctum.com/contests.ph…. Now that I'm done with my RIFT contest entry, I can now begin working on this contest.
Actually, this contest is lasting longer than normal due to timing issues with NaNoWriMo [www.nanowrimo.org/]. When I first heard this I had no idea what nanowrimo was until I researched it. Turns out it's a writing contest in November, and this one looks pretty fun. If I have enough spare time in November, I just might give it a try.

In a previous journal entry I mentioned a certain lack of drawing projects. That is no longer the case. Now it's rather the opposite – so many projects to work on that I have to focus on them one at a time (two contests and three non-contest related projects). I suppose I got what I asked for, but I didn't expect to have this many projects all at once.

Wish me luck on the RIFT Colossus Contest!

Judgment!

2 min read
The Seventh Sanctum Fantasy Fusion Contest [www.seventhsanctum.com] has ended, and I have bestowed my judgment upon them (Mwahaha). The final results will be posted on Seventh Sanctum as soon as all the other judges vote.
Being involved in the 7S contest as a judge was a new and fun experience for me. I still think entering a contest as an actual contestant is better, but it would still be fun to judge another contest. When you think about it, judging a contest is an additional "prize" to winning a 7S contest, whether you won the Grand Prize or the Runner-Up Prize. That gives me even more of an incentive to enter the next Seventh Sanctum contest!

In other news, I've been playing Minecraft. This simple little game is incredibly fun, and boy is it addictive. It's such a simple game that it's hard to write a summary that will do it justice – it's just one of those games that never sounds fun, but once you start playing you'll never want to stop. I mean, what other game let's you collect resources by punching things? Yes, you read that right – you can punch trees to collect wood. I'm not kidding.

Lately I find myself wanting to draw more and more, which is troublesome since I don't really know WHAT to draw. I tried looking at the other contests on DeviantART for drawing ideas, but the combination of a slow internet connection and hundreds of available contests didn't quite work out so well (but I'll still be looking). I'm not too concerned with prizes, but rather something fun that can get me motivated. I absolutely love the Seventh Sanctum contests since the generators there are incredibly entertaining, and bringing those results to life through art is simply a fantastic experience for me.
In any case, if I do end up drawing something I'll be sure to post it here.

So go have some fun, for today is a great day!
